Day 3: Big Beehive, Mirror Lake and Lake Agnes

On our 3rd day we decided to do some serious hiking….well….maybe serious for me, not so much for Taylor who is from Colorado and hikes actual mountains (sorry Camelback), at altitude, all the time. From Lake Louise, you can take a trail up the side of Mt. Saint Piran. The hike wasn’t too bad, although grades as steep as 40%, slushy/mushy snow in the lower portion, and ice on the upper portions did make it a challenge. The hike takes you past Mirror Lake first and while it was completely ice and snow-covered it provided an impressive view of the Big Beehive. While the ice on Lake Louise seemed rather suspect the day before the ice on Lake Agnes at 7000 feet was almost completely snow-covered providing a safe walking path from one side to the other (a distance of about 1/2 mile). The clear sky, sunlight, and snow cover made for a brilliantly bright mountain scene in front of us. After running around on the mountain for an hour we made our way back to a seating area in front of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise to enjoy the sunshine and overpriced snacks.
