A single, tattered American flag flies over the barren ground of a Native American Indian reservation in northern Arizona. A once strong and proud people, the Native American populations in Arizona and across the U.S. have suffered greatly under predominantly European settlers and, in more modern times, governmental oppression for over 500 years. With the highest rate of poverty among all minority groups many reservations struggle with drug, alcohol, and violent crime rates that are 2.5 the national average or more. While missing persons data exists for every other group in the United States, there is no such data for Native American women, and the true total of those missing will never be known.
