Bessie recently came back for a visit allowing me a chance to babysit her Baxter and Hercules. Safe to say that by the time this photo was taken even Bessie was worn out with all the playing and was ready for a nap.

Phoenix Balloon Festival

A couple weeks ago I decided to take my camera to the Halloween Spooktacular Hot Air Balloon Festival. I’ve never been to a hot air balloon festival but enjoyed my time. I got there early enough to see several balloons being put together and inflated….a process that took far less time then I would have thought. All in all it was a fun evening.

Fall in Sedona

I took up a trip to Sedona to see some fall colors. I got a bit of a late start and thus found myself unable to get to all the trails and sites I had to hoped to but I still had a good time. It was nice to get out of the city and Sedona is always so beautiful.

The Cathedral of St. Paul

I found myself with some free time on the Sunday afternoon after homecoming at Luther so I decided to wander around the city of St. Paul Minnesota before I had to head to the airport. I lived in St. Paul from January to June of 2000 so I was familiar with the city and its landmarks. When I arrived in St. Paul I found driving access to the city was limited due to the running of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. I parked the car and headed out on foot to see the one landmark I knew I wanted to get pictures of, that being the Cathedral of St. Paul.

The Cathedral underwent three iterations before arriving at its current grand design and location on the corner of Summit and Selby Avenue. The cornerstone for the current building was placed on June 2, 1907, but with more construction to follow the building was finally consecrated in 1958.

Homecoming Weekend at Luther College Part II

I’ve been slacking a little (ok a lot!) in getting photos from homecoming edited and ready for upload. I had great hopes for plenty of fall pictures from around Luther College and Decorah but the weather, in true midwest fashion, just wasn’t cooperating. As such I only have a few photos to share, but the upside of the weather was that I didn’t worry about running around the city to get as many shots as I could and instead was able to spend the time reconnecting with so many Luther friends. The turnout for homecoming this year was awesome and it was amazing to see so many people I spent so much time with 20 years ago. As with most shared experiences the bond between Luther grad’s is very close and the time spent there will always hold a special place in our hearts. To my fellow classmates from the class of ‘99, it was so good to see all of you and I wish you all continued happiness and success. #SoliDeoGloria

Country Road

Location: Caledonia, Wisconsin

Background: While I was home this summer my buddy AJ was quite keen to check out my drone. After finding out that his house was within a restricted flight zone, and a failed attempt to fly at a local park due to an unexpected dog show we found a park out amongst the fields in Caledonia. While drone photo’s and video’s are becoming more and more common I still enjoy the unique perspective provided through such a medium.

Tonto Sunset

This photo was taken hours before the large storm blew through Phoenix last week (view photos from that storm here). At the far end of the roadway in the picture you can see the west end of Saguaro Lake which then feeds into the Salt River and popular tubing spot. A final note of interest, this photo was taken from the exact same location as my post from 9.1.2019……just a different altitude.

Storm Front

I’m not going to lie. These are not the best photos. The composition is horrendous and other then the obvious I don’t feel like these photos tell much of a story. Sometimes, however, the power of the subject matter alone is such that average to below-average photos become acceptable. I for one would rather look at stunning subject matter shot so/so then tedious or boring content shot extremely well. We had, what I (not an Arizona native) would call, our first real storm of monsoon season today…….and it was awesome.

National Trail Sunset

The National Trail runs 14.5 miles along the spine of South Mountain. I've hiked different sections of this trail numerous times but never the whole thing and never this section which closely follows the road as it winds it's way toward Dobbins Lookout.

Dobson Overlook

A storm sneaks up from the south and illuminates the radio towers on top of South Mountain. This is a 20 second long exposure capturing the storm in the background and the busy roadway in the foreground.

Bessie

We had the distinct pleasure of hosting little Bessie this past weekend. A new puppy of Chelsea’s parents, Bessie is ridiculously adorable and a complete joy to spend time with. Bessie met her older nephews, splashed around in the water bowl (until we found her a pool to play in) and had fun exploring the house.

The Timber-lee Week

A smattering of photos from my week at Timber-lee volunteering as a nurse and hanging out with my favorite summer 2004 health office hottie Stephanie Fidlin. 

A. Steph and I had an awesome time (Thursday morning excluded [we laughed, we cried, we hurled]). Shout out to Abigail, Camden, Courtney, Rachel, and Katie. They had no idea what shenanigans they were getting into letting us join them for a week(yay for Chinese food in the health office!!). Thanks for T-Lee staff for making us definitely feel like we were coming home and taking the time to hang out Saturday afternoon and evening.

B. I rode an e-scooter for the first time with my new "biker" gang the SONS OF ARTHRITIS. I think my plane could have lost a wing an engine and both pilots on the way home and still would have been safer then riding those things through the hustle and bustle of downtown Milwaukee :) 

Thanks to all who made the trip back home both fun and memorable.

Hercules

We don't talk about it much, but the general consensus in the house is that Hercules was not treated very well at his last home. It breaks our hearts but makes us all the happier to watch him play with Baxter, cuddle up to one of us or relax on his favorite couch.

The Superstition Mountains

The moon provides the lighting on the Superstition mountains just outside of Phoenix. While you can't see it there is a trail that runs to the top and provides an amazing view of the valley below.
